about

Celebrate the inescapable progress of our perceptions of linear time with a song that has, in its own way, traveled through time. Written and recorded originally in 2008 for another record, "Last Night Mute" was resurrected and reimagined for SC&S's upcoming album Apophenian. It didn't make the final tracklist, however, and so finds itself released here, a brand-new old song.

lyrics

Sky glaring down is flat ash gauze
Gates closed, I melt into...
Trying to follow the lines that I draw
Knots in my heartstrings came undone

Spent last night mute
On the words I move

Wander the house with spinning wheels
Smiling like they're friends
I beat out the sparks with blows I can't feel
And weep and wail and mourn their passing

Spent last night mute
What's blooming isn't true

A howl in the night, a distant train
I jump my tracks and fade
Rigged up like carnival games
Wooden horses and verses and me wringing stones

Spent last night mute
On the words I move
Spent last night mute
What's blooming isn't true
Spent last night mute
Box is voiceless, has no clue
Spent last night mute
On the words I move
